monday night reflections

I am headed into the end of this year exactly where I need to be.

Not because everything is perfect, but because it is finally clear.

The end of this year stripped things down. It showed me which relationships fed my spirit and which ones quietly drained it.

I can now see how some friendships I held onto out of habit, loyalty or fear were never meant to last this long.

I resisted letting go for a long time. Until the weight of holding on became heavier than the fear of release.

Therapist Nedra Glover Tawwab said that “boundaries are the distance at which I can love you and me simultaneously.” That sentence lands hard as we close out the year. I learned that not everyone who has access to me deserves intimacy with my energy. Some connections were unhealthy because they were misaligned with who I am becoming.

That realization didn’t come with anger. It came with peace.

Growth required honesty and honesty required courage. Letting go made me lighter.

As we wrap these last couple of weeks of 2025, my focus turns inward. Writing has become my grounding force again. The place where I metabolize experience, where confusion becomes language, where emotion turns into meaning.

Writing helps me understand myself.

In 2026, I am protecting my energy with intention. I am choosing depth over noise. Presence over performance. Creation over consumption. As psychologist Abraham Maslow said, “In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety.” I’m stepping forward. Imperfectly, honestly and with purpose.

I do not need to rush. I do not need to explain myself to everyone. I am allowed to outgrow rooms, roles and relationships. I am allowed to choose clarity over chaos.

I’m ending this year not with regret, but with alignment.

And that feels like exactly where I am meant to be.
